Inspiring Action with Climate Solutions,  and, Building Communities.

Pre-Event Community Engagement Activities:

As part of the TEDxKigali Countdown event, we are committed to translating ideas
into action by organizing impactful community engagement activities that align with
our theme of sustainability and climate action. These activities will aim to inspire
collective action, promote environmental stewardship and leave a tangible legacy in
the community.

Plastic Picking and Collection Around Lake Kivu; in collaboration with
Saving lakes and Rivers from Denmark, and with other local organizations, We will
organize a community-wide plastic picking and collection drive in the areas
surrounding Lake Kivu. This activity will involve local residents, volunteers, and
event organisers and will aim to, emphasize the importance of protecting our water
bodies from plastic pollution. By partnering with local environmental organizations
and waste management companies, we will ensure that the collected plastic is
recycled or responsibly disposed of, and this will showcase practical solutions to
reduce waste and promote a circular economy.

Tree Planting Initiative: In collaboration with local authorities and
reforestation organizations, we will launch a tree-planting campaign to combat
deforestation and mitigate climate change. This initiative will focus on planting
Indigenous and fast-growing tree species in deforested or degraded areas around
Kigali and Lake Kivu. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute directly to
environmental restoration while learning about the role of trees in carbon
sequestration, soil protection, and biodiversity enhancement.

Distribution of Advanced Stoves and Solar Panels: As part of our
commitment to promoting clean energy solutions, we will collaborate with local
manufacturers, donors and NGOs to distribute at least 500 advanced stoves and solar panels to underserved households. These technologies will reduce reliance on biomass
for cooking, improve indoor air quality, prevent airborne diseases and provide
affordable, sustainable energy access to rural communities.

Outcomes and Impact;

These activities will not only create immediate environmental benefits but will also promote a sense of community and shared responsibility for sustainability. By involving diverse groups, including students,
professionals, and local leaders, we aim to inspire ongoing action beyond the event
and set an example for future TEDx events globally. We invite event participants,
partners, and sponsors to join us in these initiatives that will amplify their impact and
demonstrate that ideas worth spreading can truly transform our communities and the
planet.
